Every day starting at 6:30 AM, the kitchen stoves at En Xin Soup Kitchen (Restoran Dapur Sedap / 积善食堂) in Mantin are fired up by volunteer chefs and En Xin team members.
The community soup kitchen prepares over 300 portions of balanced, wholesome vegetarian meals every day for vulnerable senior citizens living alone, single-parent households, and individuals with disabilities. What makes this programme uniquely forward-thinking is its steadfast Bring Your Own Container (BYOC) policy: beneficiaries and takeaway visitors bring reusable tiffin carriers and food containers, eliminating thousands of single-use plastic takeaway boxes each month.
Surplus greens and fresh tofu rescued through En Xin’s wholesale market logistics are transformed immediately into hot, fragrant dishes, creating a zero-waste, compassionate sanctuary where no one in Mantin ever has to face an empty stomach.
